Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer covers the full scope of tax law, most notably transactional tax structuring, tax optimisation and refinancing, transfer pricing and litigation. Claus Staringer acted for Borealis in a transfer pricing dispute and assisted Generali Holding Vienna with tax issues pertaining to a transfer of real estate. Practice head Michael Sedlaczek gives ‘practical and clear advice’.

Corporate tax work is a key element of Wolf Theiss’ practice, along with tax planning, fiscal criminal law and litigation. Benjamin Twardosz is co-head of the practice along with Niklas Schmidt, who provides ‘practical, hands-on’ support to clients. The latter assisted Eurazeo with the tax structuring of an acquisition and helped a number of private clients with foundation matters.

Aigner Buzanich Rechtsanwälte’s broad practice is able to handle tax aspects of local and cross-border M&A and financing, as well as corporate tax planning and tax litigation. The team advised an institutional real estate investor on tax structuring matters and represented a German credit institution in a tax dispute pertaining to refinancing agreements. Arnold Rechtsanwaelte GmbH provides private foundations and trusts with tax scheme and transactional advice. Other areas of expertise include cross-border and real estate taxation, Austrian stamp duty and litigation. Nikolaus Arnold heads the practice.

Baker McKenzie • Diwok Hermann Petsche Rechtsanwälte LLP & Co KG has notable experience in tax planning, transactional and contentious matters, with its expertise extending to VAT and transfer pricing. ‘Focused’ team head Christoph Urtz advised EDF International on tax aspects of the client’s disposal of its minority stake in Energie Steiermark.

DLA Piper Weiss-Tessbach has a strong practice covering deal structures, due diligence, criminal tax cases and self-disclosures. Franz Althuber advised CommVault Systems on tax structuring and assisted a financial services provider with a voluntary self-disclosure.

With a focus on cross-border tax work, Dorda frequently advises multinational energy sector players and private clients with tax-optimised business or holding structures. Paul Doralt heads the team, whose clients include Seadrill and SapuraKencana Petroleum.

Grama Schwaighofer Vondrak Rechtsanwälte’s practice is led by Philip Vondrak, who is experienced in advising high-net-worth individuals on private foundations and trusts, including succession planning. Other areas of expertise include corporate and international tax matters, often in the real estate sector.

Schindler Attorneys has a particular focus on private equity tax structures. Clemens Philipp Schindler also advised Banque PSA Finance on tax implications of a joint venture with Banco Santander.
