The ‘reputable’ team at Advokatfirmaet BA-HR DAhas a perfect mix of partners and specialisms’. The practice is strong in all elements of tax law, with expertise in transfer pricing, international tax and tax litigation. Joachim Bjerke leads the group, which also includes real estate specialist Anne Sofie Bjørkholt, litigator and energy expert Jan Jansen, and Frode Talmo, who focuses on shipping matters.

Deloitte Advokatfirma AS is ‘one of the best tax firms around’. Recommended lawyers include practice head Rolf Saastad, who is ‘extremely competent in international tax’; M&A expert Audun Frøland; transfer pricing head Hans-Martin Jørgensen; Alexander With, who is ‘exceptional at indirect tax’; and Tore Paulshus, who advises wealthy individuals. Clients include Cargill and AMF.

At Ernst & Young Advokatfirma AS, Christian Bøsterud heads the group and Marius Leivestad leads the transfer pricing team. Other key names include Øyvind Hovland and Gjert Melsom, who are international tax specialists, and Hans Georg Wille, who focuses on M&A.

Trond Ingebrigtsen heads Advokatfirmaet PricewaterhouseCoopers AS’ ‘trustworthy and helpful’ department, which recently advised Colony Capital on the tax elements of its acquisition of the Stavanger Statoil headquarters. The team covers the full spectrum of tax law and has a standalone transfer pricing practice headed by Morten Beck. Ståle Wangen leads the international tax group.

Advokatfirmaet Thommessen AS is recognised as ‘a strong and respected firm’ with ‘superior skills and a proactive service’. It frequently acts in transactional mandates and litigation; department head Finn Backer-Grøndahl represented Wilh Wilhelmsen in a Supreme Court tax dispute. Clients recommend Ståle Kristiansen and Hanne Skaarberg Holen.

At Wiersholm, the ‘talented and positive’ Bettina Banoun heads the department, which also includes Andreas Bullen, who ‘is always on top of things’, Morten Goller, who is ‘one of the best litigators’, and corporate tax adviser Nicolay Vold. Clients include Herkules Capital, which the team is representing in Supreme Court litigation, Statoil and Songa Offshore.

Arntzen de Besche’s practice focuses on corporate matters and contentious issues. Corporate specialist Anders Heieren heads the practice, which also includes indirect tax expert Cecile Aasprong Dyrnes. Ulf Werner Andersen is representing Transocean in tax litigation, and Rune Tjomsås Andersen is advising Gassco on property tax issues regarding a processing plant. Eyvind Sandvik made partner in 2017.

Espen Nordbø leads Advokatfirmaet Haavind AS’ team, which covers corporate and litigation work, often with an international element. Nils Flesland Bull heads the firm’s standalone indirect tax group, which specialises in VAT and customs issues. Arne Haavind is recommended for contentious matters. Clients include Avinor, BlackRock and Arctic Securities.

Tax boutique Harboe & Co AS covers all elements of tax work, including transfer pricing, VAT and corporate tax. Key names include litigator Harald Hauge, VAT specialist Marianne Brockmann Bugge, Einar Harboe, and Christian Grevstad, who focuses on the oil and gas sector.

KPMG Law Advokatfirma AS advises clients on corporate tax, transfer pricing, indirect tax and contentious matters. Highlights included assisting DEA Norge with the tax elements of its acquisition of E.ON E&P Norge, and representing Marine Harvest in tax litigation. Per Ivar Skinstad leads the group.

Advokatfirmaet Schjødt AS fields ‘strong litigators’ and has substantial Supreme Court experience. The team also has expertise in international corporate structuring, and Morten Sandli is advising Opera Software on a tax-efficient restructuring. Practice head Cecilie Amdahl, corporate tax specialist Hugo Matre, indirect tax expert Trond Larsen and Peter Hiorth are recommended.

At Selmer, ‘insightful and service-minded’ international tax structuring specialist Einar Bakko advised Norwegian Ship & Offshore Services on several international tax issues, while practice head Sverre Hveding is representing Endure in two tax reassessment disputes. The team also has incentive expertise.

Led by Anders Myklebust, Wikborg Rein advises on all elements of tax, including disputes, transactions, M&A support and VAT issues, with notable strength in the offshore and shipping sectors. Are Zachariassen is recommended for tax structuring and international tax law, and Kaare Andreas Shetelig focuses on litigation.

Described as a ‘client-oriented firm’, Advokatfirmaet Grette DA’s sector specialisms in pharmaceuticals, technology and energy are the main drivers of its tax practice. Department head Thomas Alnæs is recommended for tax planning. Tore Karlsson advises individuals on personal tax issues and also specialises in VAT matters.

Kluge Advokatfirma AS’ practice, led by Eirik Jensen, was recently integrated into the firm’s corporate department. Tax litigation is a cornerstone of the group, as is expertise in petroleum tax and advisory matters.

Advokatfirmaet Simonsen Vogt Wiig’s standalone team advises on corporate issues, audits, tax planning and contentious mandates. Senior lawyer Christian Svensen heads the department, which also includes restructuring expert Alf Nielsen. Jan Syversen retired.

Brækhus Advokatfirma DA’s team was strengthened in 2016 following the recruitment of John Spissøy from Deloitte Advokatfirma AS. Practice head Antonio Holstad and VAT specialist Nils Eriksen are recommended.

Hans Olav Hemnes leads Advokatfirma Ræder DA’s practice following his recruitment from an in-house position at BDO Advokater. The team advises individuals, companies and municipalities, and assists with national and international tax matters, tax planning and compliance issues.
