Recent work includes representing HSBC Financial Uruguay in its claim before the Tax Authority to recover $5m in VAT. On the transactional side, the team acted for Goldman Sachs on the tax aspects of its $140m acquisition of a 60% interest in Tienda Inglesa.

Tax is a key pillar of Bergstein’s practice and it regularly acts for both domestic and multinational companies across the full range of tax planning, corporate support, and contentious matters – representative clients include Abbott Laboratories, Amadeus and Diageo. Hughes & Hughes’accurate, timely and pragmatic team’ is led by associate and ‘creative problem-solver’ Fernando Barrios and public accountant Miguel Rocca. Recent work includes advising Puma Energy on the Free Trade Zone regime.

Posadas, Posadas & Vecino maintains a broad tax practice with specialist experience in international taxation, general advisory matters and tax litigation. Daniel González Cotelo heads the national group, while Raúl Vairo heads the team in Zonamérica. Clients include BTG Pactual, Lombard Odier and Rafael Viñoly Architects.

Fischer & Schickendantz’s tax practice is led by Juan Ignacio Troccoli, who also oversees the firm’s corporate and accounting departments. Non-contentious work comprises the bulk of instructions and the practice recently advised Atton Hotels on the tax aspects of its establishment in Uruguay.
